How Visible Are We?
by Linda Schreckenberg

In the Apostolic quest for reaching souls, we must ask ourselves this question, “How visible are we?”  In a world of clamoring voices, velvet couches, gold pianos, and great personalities, how will the voice of truth be heard above all of it?  What will cause the world, especially this nation, to take notice?  Recently, on a nationally known website, this statement was made, “We are now prime time, baby.”  One has to admit, yes, it is true.

But where is the visibility of the true church, the covenanted church, baptized with the power of the Holy Ghost, wearing the Name above all names? In an age of technology of amazing magnitude, where is our voice?

I am saddened when all they seem to know about us are the symbols of our separation from the world. Yes, they will say of Apostolic women, “they wear dresses, and they do not cut their hair.”  They will say,  “those are oneness people”, but they know very little about the history behind us.  They haven’t a clue as to what the Apostolic woman or Apostolic man really is. They know very little if anything about the Holy Ghost signifying a covenant.  They witness little or none of our baptisms as they did in the days gone by.  The river baptisms drew the attention of those passing by.  Some would run into the water to be baptized, knowing nothing about Apostolic power. This generation knows little or nothing about the true church of the living God. It is true the modesty and beautiful hair of the Apostolic woman sometimes defines the words Apostolic Pentecostal. That is because her separation from the world is “visible.” It is a statement of a banner of separation, because it is visible.  It was not, however, the symbols of modesty alone that defined Apostolic power when his Spirit was first poured out upon this nation.  When the power of God was displayed upon his people, the news was noised abroad. Word of mouth proclaimed his great power everywhere, not just within the confines of the sanctuaries.  It made headlines in newspapers.  Men and women came for miles to see the power of God in action.  It brought a reverence for the Holy.  It brought man into a saving knowledge of a Holy God. It brought the power of conviction upon those whose hearts were not right.  There were conversions of many, some who had been so wicked it was thought they would never change.  Men were brought to their knees in conviction as the anointing of God rested upon the mouth of the people, layperson as well as preacher.  It was the Apostolic power that made the church visible in those days.  It is that same power that will make it visible in today’s world.

We must remember the world rarely hears our choirs, hears very little if any words of our anointed men and women of God, and rarely read reports of the wonderful works of God among his people, in their daily newspapers.  Therefore if they don’t visit our sanctuaries, or any of our conferences, they have no idea what Apostolic truth is all about.  We wonder why they think we are a strange people.  They simply do not know us.  We must become visible to them in the area of the power of God.  The world is constantly visible. The immorality, the glitter of Hollywood , the voices of those who bring about changes in our nation, all are visible. The gathering of multitudes, the Woodstock of the sixties, the rock concerts, and all of its display makes the world visible. Woodstock lasted for days, as the news followed every happening.  The world is curious when it comes to the visible. The Catholic churches in St. Louis erected large white tents for three days, where men and women could walk through, pick up their church literature, and ask questions about Catholicism.  People will visit out of curiosity.  The world takes notice of outdoor gatherings.  History is made.  History was made at Azusa Street .  The Word  promises our God is able to do “exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think…  The rest of that scripture however says this; according to the power that worketh in us.”  Ephesians 3:20  There is no substitution for the power of the anointing of God upon a people. It will cause God to move as the scripture promises, “above all we can ask or think.” In Joel, it is promised of the last days, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:  And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out of my spirit.  And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke……”  Joel 2:28-30 When the Apostolic church becomes so visible it cannot be ignored, the world will take notice.  The Apostles turned their world upside down.  Our world has become so comfortable, it is time for the Apostolic church to turn it upside down.  We can be sure it will be noised abroad.
